Swae Travel creates sustainable carry-on backpacks and accessories designed for one-bag travel, helping modern travellers pack lighter and move smarter.

How Swae Travel Began

In 2019, newly engaged, Wayne and I left Australia for London, setting up a new life abroad and seizing every opportunity to explore. From cosy weekends in the Cotswolds to sun-soaked escapes along the Mediterranean, we quickly realised the freedom that comes with travelling light.

By 2021, as we prepared to return to Australia, we found ourselves with three months spare. We set off to explore Europe, Mexico, and the United States - still carrying nothing but our trusty backpacks. Carrying less meant doing more. No check-in lines. No waiting at baggage claim. No hauling suitcases across cobblestone streets. Just freedom to move, explore, and enjoy the adventure.

But as we clocked up the miles, we kept hitting the same frustrations. Backpacks that almost worked - but not quite. Awkward layouts. Straps that didn’t pull their weight. Materials that didn’t go the distance. Designs that looked the part but didn’t deliver. We tested countless bags, searching for the perfect balance of form and function, but it didn’t exist. 

So, we built it.
